Sugarleaf.. Foods That Nourish held a food tasting event at their MEDICard Lifestyle Center branch. I was one of the lucky few who attended the event.
The restaurant offers vegetarian foods. Since I am not really a vegan, this is my first vegan restaurant. So, you’ll be reading the experience of a non-vegan eating in vegan restaurant.
Sugarleaf aims to inform people that you can enjoy eating a healthy food. Healthy eating is often paired with the idea that the food will not taste good. Here with Sugarleaf, that’s not the case. Especially their malunggay (moringa) juice, you wont taste the malunggay at all. That’s because Sugarleaf has this special juicer which they called Matstone, a low speed multi-purpose juicer.

During the food tasting event, we were able to talk to Mr. Angelo Narciso Songco, the co-owner, marketing and business development head of Sugarleaf. “Though health is a major factor when it comes to food choices, we realize that vanity is a more active influence. People always focus on their appearance before anything else.” Mr. Angelo shares. “At Sugarleaf, as our restaurant and store offerings are as organic and natural as possible, food is naturally weight-reducing, detoxifying, anti-oxidizing (make you look and feel young) and energy boosting. We ensure that food choices taste great so it appeals to all people dispelling the misconception that healthy organic food is bland, tasteless and boring.” – Sugarleaf (Press Release)
The first food that they served is the Assorted Goody Wraps. It has crabstick and mango, grass fed beef, smoked bangus, and chicken. And to make it taste better, they added a special dressing in which you can dip your goody wraps.

The other dish that were served was the homemade fettuccine with organic pesto and mango. I love this one. You wouldn’t notice that you are actually eating an organic food. Tastes like the normal pesto you eat at non-vegan restaurants.

As for the desert, they served us ice cream! But take note, this one is a healthy ice cream, so you wouldn’t feel guilty eating sweets when you are not supposed to eat sweets. The ice cream that they served used coconut sugar so no need to feel guilty.

As a non-vegan, my verdict to Sugarleaf is 4 out 5 stars. For a vegan restaurant, Sugarleaf is not so bad after all. You get to enjoy the food while eating healthy foods, this is Sugarleaf’s goal, and so far, they were doing good at reaching their goal. If you are after a good vegan restaurant in the metro, then Sugarleaf is a must try.
